Dr. Barnabas Szabo

Barnabas Szabo is an Ax:son Johnson Institute for Statecraft and Diplomacy Post-doctoral Fellow at the Centre for Geopolitics at the University of Cambridge. He is an Affiliated Research Associate at Robinson College.

Szabo holds a PhD in Comparative History from Central European University (Budapest/Vienna). He also holds graduate degrees in International Relations, European Studies, and Nationalism Studies. His current research focuses on establishing the British and Spanish unions in the early eighteenth century. Szabo finds it remarkable that the themes orienting European diplomacy in the 1700s are gaining a new urgency today. At the Centre, he hopes to contribute to research on Central Europe, a region he argues “will soon be crucial to relations between West and East, North and South.”
