Ben Brücher

Ben Brücher is an Assistant Director at the Ax:son Johnson Institute for Statecraft and Diplomacy.

As Assistant Director, he assists AJI’s operations, event planning, and programme development. This includes AJI’s policy roundtables, academic symposia, and stand-alone events, like the Henry A. Kissinger and the Question of World Order conference.

Ben is also a PhD candidate at the Hertie School’s Centre for International Security. Here, he examines West Germany’s grand strategy under Chancellor Helmut Kohl between 1982 and German reunification.

Ben has completed a BA and MA in History at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich and an additional MA at the Department of War Studies at King’s College London. Throughout his academic journey, Ben’s research focused on the intricacies of state of exception and extra-legal necessity concepts in International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights.

Ben previously worked at the University of the Bundeswehr Munich as a Research Associate, where he led seminars on the historical transformations of war and conflict and developed a multidisciplinary workshop on comparative perspectives on states of emergency. Additionally, he was a Research Fellow of the Young Security Conference Think Tank, exploring European foreign and security policy.
